2002-03-04 - 10:15 p.m. #107: No Need for Making an Ass of Myself.... In a Completely Different Way! Note to self: I made a strange conjecture about animation from different cultures today. It's a little odd, but I'd like to explain it through the easiest example possible: Take action sequences, where either the "camera" is panning from one side to another, or the characters (or indiscriminate objects in an explosive blast) are moving across the screen. In anime, the tendency is for the camera/characters/indiscriminate objects to move from the right to the left, while in more western animation the emphasis is on left to right. Both are obviously influenced by both the sequential order in their respective comic book art styles, as well as the direction the text would be read (if there were speech bubbles; moving left to right in English or most western languages, or right to left in Asian ones). That's a pretty weird conjecture to make, I know; And it can probably be proven wrong a dozen times over through hundreds upon thousands of different examples from each source of animation.... But still, I think I'll keep this little tidbit of info in mind the next time I read a comic book or manga; and notice about just how much of the art layout, style and positioning of the text bubbles is influenced by the way ones eyes is naturally accustomed to roam about it. And now that I've said my piece, let's never share these little private revelations to the general public ever again. They are way too embarassing. I *was* going to write an entire entry detailing each and every single failure that contributed to the brilliant cacophony of shame and misery that is my life. But I decided against that and went with option number 2, which was "Kill every single new sales assistant in Dick Smith Botany Downs (especially that smug asian guy who obviously took the position that was meant for me and me alone) and all potential applicants until they've whittle down the list down to me even though I've probably sent in my CV about five times now those bastards I will kill them kill them kill them kill them--" and it gets a little bit repetitive after that point. Are online journals considered admissable evidence? Hmmmmm. Maybe I should make a note to kill all the people who've read my journal as well. Kill them TWICE if they've actively participated in the laughing gregariously at my pain(tm). You know who you are. And I know where you live. And I'm coming for ya, buddy. Yeah. I'm comin' fer ya with buttplugs. @_@ So anyway.... While I'm off busy disposing the bodies of the unlucky DS employees who have finished Monday afternoons shift (or just IMAGINING that I'm disposing the bodies which I don't have. Or not disposing the bodies at all but just curled up in some corner somewhere wondering if there is a god and realising that there is and that he's taking potshots at me with his hunting rifle while heavily influenced by Satanic rock music and violent video games.) you can download the following two files and see if I'm deserving of heavenly praise and worship, or simply scorn and derision. I'm not going to say what the files are, beyond the fact that it's related to my on and off hobby of voice acting and that you might be surprised. Well, maybe. Depends on which side of the "friends" border you're approaching from anyway. And if you're a complete stranger, then you're probably completely out of luck, I'm afraid. O.o It requires the later versions of Windows Media Player to open correctly, however. So go watch and listen. If you feel the irrepressible urge to stroke my ego, please do so. Either in person or by email would be fine. On the otherhand, if you feel the need to point out how utterly pathetic and stupid my hobby is instead, please shove those sentiments up your arse and light it with an acetylene torch. And then go moon some policemen and distract them from the car driving away with a boot and backseat full of dead DS sale assistants. And now I shall go. To do stuff. Unrelated stuff. Yes. Watch! Listen! Now. That is all. |
