#54: No Need for AAC Meeting (kinda) at My Place: Part 2!

Note to self: Ugh, just what the heck happened to my favourite Malaysian fried dish, Cha Kuey Toaw? I went down to the small shopping area in our suburb to pick up some groceries (read: snack foods and a quart of milk) and decided to have a spot of lunch there at the small Malaysian cafe. Although it wasn't my favourite place to visit for Cha Kuey Toaw, it was the best and closest alternative I had there.... Normally I'm able to wolf it all down, it being a perfectly acceptable in an edible sense, of course; but today.... Urgh. All the ingredients were there to make the perfect dish, but it was just GLISTENING with oil. Too much oil. I was able to swallow several mouthfuls of it before my stomach started protesting at the emulsification going on inside of it. And I pride myself on having an iron stomach, too. I guess it didn't help any that I was drinking a carbonated soft drink at the time, nor that I was seated behind some guy with a "receding hairline" who kept reaching to the top of his head and patting the sweat off it with his handkerchief. That sort of thing really makes one lose ones appetite. Anyway, making a note for myself here: Never eat at that place, EVER AGAIN. Even if the franchise is owned by a close family friend who also has a place open at his restaurant whenever we ask for it. I'm probably not Malaysian enough anymore to appreciate it. -_-;;;

Well, this is part 2 of a series of entries detailing an AAC meeting (kinda) at my place, which will hopefully go onto a part three (and maybe even four) if everything goes according to plan. That plan being, of course, that I clean everything up to make it look like nobody was EVER HERE, so my mother won't suspect a thing. ^_^ Then, of course, there's the problem of transportation.... I hope it won't be a problem in the future considering I live so far away but.... eh, don't borrow trouble if I don't have to.

Anyway, tonights meeting didn't go entirely to plan since Chris was late (and he had the tapes of Nadia) so the meeting started a little bit later at about 6:45 over the 6PM start time I had planned. Oh well, it's all good. We managed to stay within the confines of the "usual" meeting times of 7 to 11, anyway. Quite a lot of people turned up actually, which was a little surprising though not unpleasant. Zeb and Josh came in first at 5 (catching me just as I was getting ready and out of the shower too, TSK! ;-) and got a mini tour of the house.... Before they broke into my Lego blocks collection, with Zeb being the most enthusiastic about creating a little house. ^^;;; They also got the first taste of my world famous Tom Yum soup and didn't die from it, which is always a good sign for any bachelor who has to cook for himself. It's amazing what one can accomplish with a jar of the paste, a pot of boiling water and a packet of fishballs. I am l33t cook, mwaha. Seems they were the only ones to really get a taste too.... I guess I made it a little bit too soon. Was stone cold by the time the meeting started. Oopsy. ^^;;;

After a while (and relocating to the sitting room where Zeb could further splurge on her creative impulses on the lego) Michael came in, followed soon after by Matt and Fergus and after that still by James and Amy. But still no Chris. Hmm. So we tossed in one of Fergus' videos which had the (now infamous) anime-styled music video of Daft Punk. Following unto that was the anime version of The Adventures of Zorro in which a lot of people screamed. Well, I screamed, to be precise but a lot of people joined in because of my efforts. It wasn't actually bad, (in fact I quite like it, from what I saw of an episode earlier in the day) but it seems customary to scream at anything dubbed, so I got all that out of my and everyones elses system. About this point, Chris wandered in with a friend and Nadia in tow. Nadia as in The Secret (of) Blue Water not the person. Altogether, a total guest showing of 10, including me, which is one over the previous meeting. Which is good. So with Chris finally here, we settled in to watch the remaining three episodes from his Nadia collection.

Twas quite enjoyable the Nadia viewing, but SOME people (ahem, not naming any names or anything, *shifty eyes*) seemed more engrossed in building up Zebs little Lego house than actually watching the anime in question. But I guess the fact that we were watching halfway through (for some of the members) didn't really help matters any. It also didn't help any that the viewing session ended in what was roughly a cliffhanger, and no more tapes to go. Need more Nadia goodness. Need to finish watching it all! @_@ Ahem. Not that I'm pressuring anyone to buy the rest of the series, of course. Nosiree. That wouldn't be my style at all. *whistles innocently*

After that, since there was still plenty of time, we started into episodes of Giant Robo! Yes! Now people will finally see the magnificent glory that is THE BEAUTIFUL NIGHT! *laughs Genya-ly. then stops* Well anyway, it went down pretty well.... Mostly. I hope. ^^;;;; Not too much screaming at the dub, fortunately, since we tired ourselves out with Zorro (yes, that was my plan all along. Ha! Caught in my web of deceit!). I'm willing to stand by my opinion that Giant Robo is a good dub; but people attack Daisakus English voice for whom, quite frankly, I have no real defense. I could point out that it's hard to do a little boy voice in any event, but eh, I just pay attention to everybody elses voices. Albertos in particular makes me want to giggle with glee. Same with Ivans, but for completely different reasons. Ivans voice doesn't make me do the GIRLISH giggle of glee. Yes.

Managed to get through 3 eps of the series before ending in a rather painful cliffhanger. I think the overall response was fairly good (for all those naysayers out there who don't know what happens next, IT GETS BETTER. And really twisty, too. And more people with supercool powers that are never explained) so I'll show more episodes in future meets at my place. Or maybe somebody elses place, I can always bring the tapes along, afterall. I take particular pleasure in being able to watch the series again while with people who have NO idea what's going to happen next. It's an indescribable dirty thrill to try and keep spoilers from leaping from your throat, sad as it may sound. O.o On the otherhand, I'm not sure if any of them will make sense unless one were to actually see the episode in question. Hmmm. Nuts, that just dampened my fun a bit. ^_^

The finish of the third episode saw the group breaking up a little as we dug into a bit of the cheesecake, watched the opening to The Hakkenden (wasn't really willing to show any more than that, considering I only had 3 eps out of 26) and replayed that Daft Punk video again (need the second and third ones....). And then finally it was time for the clean up and the shoving of people out the door into the cold, wet and windy night. BEAUTIFUL NIGHT! I gotta stop doing that. And now here am I, typing all this up at 1AM in the morning when I need to get up at 8AM to watch Jackie Chan Adventures.

I think I'm going to go polish off the rest of Giant Robo. ^_^ WHEE! *runs to my tapes*
