2001-06-02 - 2:05 a.m. #69: No Need for AAC Meeting (kinda) at My Place: Part 4! Note to self: Despite various attempts at trying to raise a signal, my CD-RW drive appears to be dead. Dead as a doornail. Dead as a Shizuma drive in the wake of the Eye of Folgers anti-Shizuma field. Dead.... as a really dead thing. And I really need that drive, because not only does it write (and rewrite) CDs, but it also reads them as I don't happen to have a second CD drive to go along with it. I've tried using Win98s hardware detection, I've fiddled around with the CMOS setup (probably didn't do much, as I had no idea what I was doing), I've tried using the Win98 Boot Disk and Setup CD (didn't even detect the CD was there, and went through multiple proggies trying to locate it too) and I've tried screaming at it incoherently and wondering aloud why my god has forsaken me. Nill effect. So I'm stuck, I'll have to go to the computer shop I got it from and ask them to look over it, even though it's been a while since I got it from them. I'm hoping that it's a simple problem, like a loose or burnt cable to the CD-RW (which may explain the sporadic "opening/closing CD tray and accessing the drive for no reason" action I've been getting lately) or some other easy problem that'd be embarassingly easy to fix. Cause I'd rather be embarassed and stuck with a simple problem, rather than not be embarassed and be stuck with a BIG problem.... A problem which would require replacing the entire drive and having the machine stand in the store for a while. Which would be rather horrid. I.... need.... My computer. @_@ And I need it working properly. This depressed mood settled over me during the anime night, so I wasn't really in that much of a frame of mind to enjoy the last chapter of Giant Robo. Of all the times for this to happen. Ergh. Anyway, tonight was probably the last anime night sort of gathering I was going to have at my place for a while (since I'd run out of things to show). First person to show up was EB at about a little past 5PM.... After having apparently caught the 3:20 bus from the city. Which is quite long, even for rush hour traffic. O.o The commute from here to the city in the morning and back in the evening is without a doubt, quite hellish, but almost 2 hours? I think that's some kind of a record for Howick and Eastern Busing.... Throw on a "humour mode" anime music video VCD, but spent most of the time in a stimulating conversation with EB about super intelligent zombies who "ordered out" for life fresh victims to feed upon. You had to be there to understand, I guess. A small segment showing Sabans version of Sailor Moon surprised him.... Which surprised me, since I'd thought that being a Sailor Moon fan that he was, he'd know all about Saban and their evil, evil, evil, EVIL translation of Sailor Moon. Even more evil than DiCs version. I wish I still had the link to the full promotional movie clip, or at least had my CD drive back so I could access and show its evilness (mustn't let my thougfhts wander to brokenness of CD drive.... DAMN! Did it *sighs*). But if you haven't seen it, count your lucky stars. You didn't need to see female cast leftovers from Saved by the Bell dancing and singing and with the ability to turn into animated versions of themselves in Sailor Senshi outfits..... in Hanna-Barbera animation style. Anyway.... the Metal Pron Solid 2 trailer wiped that foul taste from our mouths, only to replace it with another. Ew. Amy and James turned up at 6PM, first time they ever turned up early.... And got very little for their trouble as nobody else had arrived yet. ^^;;;; In fact, by the time 6:30PM around and still no one else but us in sight, I started to get a little worried. Fortunately about this time David came in, followed by Chris and Daniel (aha! I got his name, finally! Ha!) and followed still by Fergus, Josh and Matt and followed yet again (and finally, too) by Michael! Normally I'd describe their dramatic entrances, but I was a bit too distracted planning the various different ways I was going to throw myself at the feet of the people who put my computer together and beg them to get it to work again. Either that, or threaten them with a plastic handgun made to shoot sticky darts. In any case, I wasn't paying attention enough. Threw in a tape showing my l33t "Final Fantasy 8 final battle with boss" skills (taped from the PSX I had borrowed from my cousin) to while the time away to 7PM. Tried not to think about the fact that I had the PC version of the game which I could play IF ONLY MY FRIGGING CD DRIVE WOULD WORK. Ahem. So anyway, watched Giant Robo episode 7. Finished watching Giant Robo episode 7. Was too distracted to watch Giant Robo episode 7. I hope the others were at least enjoying their last few Giant Robo moments. But I did cheer when Alberto leapt from his supposed grave and kicked some serious Eye of Folger ass before disintegrating in a coolly heroic, and yet completely in character way. I can even recite his entire ending speech, which is rather sad. Not backwards, though. O.o Watched the first Gynrei OAV (with butt shots and nekkid ladies in it. hur hur hur. Beat Zebs Hentai Night by 2 days! ^_^). Took a small break there to watch a couple more AMVs (and introduced more people to the humour that is the Metal Pron Solid 2 trailer) after that, latched unto the three more episodes of Nadia: Secret of Blue Water provided by Chris and his wallet, for which we were thankful for. Especially his wallet. Was a little too distracted to watch that as well, but even one section of humourous action managed to grab me out of that funk, which is always good. Borrowed the two latest tapes from Chris to get ahead of the others. Heeeeeeee..... ^_^ After watching Nadia, moved to my room to watch some of the game trailers I'd downloaded (that I was SUPPOSED to have burned unto CD.... Which.... unfortunately.... is.... NO!!!! Must.... maintain.... tenuous.... link.... to sanity and.... lack of raging bloodlust!). Too many of them to list, but most of them were trailers that hailed from this years E3, including Silent Hill 2, Metal Gear Solid 2, Devil May Cry and Warcraft III. Also showed the trailers to the Final Fantasy movie as well as, err, Daikatana. But the latter only to show how much BETTER everything else was. Yes. The explanation didn't save me from being briefly strangled by EB, though. @_@ After a while of trailer showing, David left, followed by EB and Michael in tow. Decided to spend the rest of the time in the TV lounge area showing more AMVs until we got sick of them.... And then came the landmark! 12AM! Yes, the people remaining stayed until 12AM! Meaning that they were here on both Friday and Saturday! Technically the longest time people have been at an AAC event. Well, actually that would be technically 2nd longest since one would have to factor in Nadeas New Years Eve celebration at her place. Oh well. Nuts. @_@ So anyway, after that, everybody left and I cleaned up, (with a little initial help from Amy who gathered all the cups and junk up at the table for me. Thank you! ^_^) which took VERY little ime at all.... About a half hour, and that's only because I was going rather slow. Which brings me to now, being here typing this entry up, and getting ready to turn in and hopefully go down to the computer store and sorting things out about my CD drive. Hopefully it won't take too long and I'll be in time for Chris' B Movie Marathon/Competition but.... Not sure if I can make it anyway because my father seems to have made some rather definite plans for tomorrow for me to attend to. -_-;;;; Ah well.... Play by ear and see.... And pray to whatever deities you may have to HEAL MY COMPUTAH AND SET ITS SOUL FREE! OUT DEVIL! OUT, I SAY! Sorry, was just recalling the Gary Larson strip with the electrical appliance healer.... Nevermind. Goin' to sleep now. |
