2001-06-27 - 9:21 p.m. #77: No Need for Reminders by Christians Note to self: I seem-- No, I *am* doing a lot of these highly detailed logs of what happened in days past recently, so I think people may be getting a bit sick of them. ^^;;; I'll go back to the more moderate mix of "what I feel" versus writing about the contents of the entire day. That'll work out better, yes. Plus, I'll no longer needlessly scare people with remembering every minute detail like some fleshy version of a remote spydrone of Big Brother. @_@ Boooooooo.... *wiggles fingers dramatically* Another Tuesday AAC meet yesterday evening, and once again I went in too early. I'm bad like that. ^^;;; Arrived in the city at 2:30PM, but decided to stick around for a bit of lunch/dinner in the form of..... fried kway teow! Again! Sure it's unhealthy for me, especially considering the amount I've been consuming recently.... But ever since I found that undeground foodcourt just right in the middle of Queen Street, I can't stop going to it for the wonderful noodle goodness! Unfortunately, I kinda picked the wrong time of day to go for a quick spot of lunchy munchies, for who should I run into the middle of the street but.... Mitchell! Yes, Mitchell, one of my friends from university who also happened to be a rather millitant Christian! You'd think with everyone I know from the AAC, I'd be running into them first, or even some other people I know from the university (actually, I'm not sure if I'd really want to run into any of the latter, either). But no, it was good old Mitchell, who accompanied me to the asian foodcourt for lunch and a drink and proceeded to give me a mini sermon right there and then. @_@ That was a rather bad aftertaste to an otherwise splendid meal, and I had to sit back and listen to him complete his spiel.... That's what friends are for right? To listen without actually fully comprehending what they're saying and giving the occasional encouraging nod and "yup"s? Right? Errr.... In any case, he managed to keep talking about "sharing life experiences" and "being friends with God" and how he was a "bad assed rebel once as well" (which made me quirk my eyebrow a bit) for forty minutes. FORTY MINUTES. How can he keep talking without a break on this subject for forty minutes? It borders on pure zealotism.... Plus, I'd heard it before when he rang me up some time ago as described in this entry. I guess he's trying to look out for me and encouraging me to deepen my relationship with God.... But the way he goes on about it would have caused me to roll my eyeballs around in their sockets several times over if I had been less polite or more honest. I guess I should have been more honest and told him, "No, I don't want to hear this. Please stop." but that would probably have made things worst. Besides, it's not as if I'm completely disinterested in the subject matter just.... Not right now. Too busy for God? Looks that way. -_-;;; Anyway, I managed to escape his presence briefly by going to the bathroom for a purely legitimate reason, then lingered on for more covert ones. But then I thought to myself: Leaving him behind by crawling out of one of the toilet windows would probably be too rude and heinous an act to consider. Besides, the foodcourt was underground, so there weren't any windows anyway. Damn. After managing to get away from him at the conclusion of the lecture, and making a brief stop at the city library to while away the time (and picking up, of all things, a graphic novel of Preacher. Which despite it's title, does not have an overly religious Christian story; and featured, in this particular set, the origin of the "Saint Of Killers", a coldblooded gunslinger from the old West who became the angel of death through his insatiable need for revenge. If any of you are even remotely interested in reading comics, I recommend giving this title a read, as well as anything by Garth Ennis), I caught the 4:20PM bus down to usual theatre where the AAC held the event. And arrived too early as usual. This time however, the theatre wasn't open. So I couldn't just sneak in there, turn on the projector, hook up my VCD player and spend the next couple of hours watching whatever was in my mood. Goshdarnit. -_-;;; Fortunately, I managed to amuse myself with a small game of pool in the ACEs closed cafeteria. From the security guards locking down all the doors, I get the feeling I wasn't meant to be in there. O.o I actually sunk at least all the striped balls (and the white one several times over. ^^;;;) before I decided to go out and see if anyone else was waiting. Fortunately for me, there was, and I greeted EB and Matt in the midst of this concrete garden. People arrived a mite bit more readily after that (well, about an hour later anyway); I shan't bother to list all their names here, you should know all the usual suspects now. ^_^ Was feeling decidely mellow for some reason while making small talk, as well as returning a lot of stuff to people (and being returned stuff too) and letting Zeb borrow my Sam and Max graphic novel and my copy of 3x3 Eyes Part 5 to see the alternate ending. Also got a copy of Black and White off Michael, Sam and Max PC game off James and a bunch of anime stuff off Ronnie. Felt like I was insulated in fluffy cotton wool while through all this though, for some reason.... Or maybe that happened AFTER I saw the anime on show that evening. First on show was Photon which, while hillarious and possessing the germ of originality (some very odd technology on display there.... as well as other things) was atypical of shonen anime stuff I've been watching recently. Which isn't a bad thing really, since I generally enjoy anime which revolve around the "one guy, many gals" concept (hmmm.... Is this a Freudian slip of a kind?). But despite all its bright and exceedingly goofy humour, the anime that caught my attention the most that evening barely lasted a half hour and, of all things, was mostly in English. That was Blood: The Last Vampire about a kickass girl who wields a katana and slays demons. In the hands of a pulpy B-grade director, that concept is probably enough to produce a silly, pulpy two hour movie, and probably a terrible Buffy ripoff at that (or just the original Buffy movie, period). There is just so much going on in the story, and a lot of it is unspoken and unexplored, which instead of making me feel disappointed, keeps me intrigued with the possibilities of what came before this movie and what will come after. But a brain buster it really isn't, as for the most part it's an action thriller/horror film and kept at a terrific pace. I'm pretty sure that if this film had been longer, it wouldn't have been able to acheive the same effect as it did in 30 minutes. Short, fast and efficient; not unlike the main character, Seya. A katana wielding vampire girl who manages to capture the feeling of a mysterious deadly beauty in half an hour what Dark Angels Max fails to do in an entire season. Basically, if I ever get a DVD player, this is going to be one of the first things I get. It's extremely short, but also extremely well done, and raises the hope for future adventures with this vampire girl. There's just so much I can go on, but I think I've said my piece. Plus, I've been doing too many reviews lately. ^_^ I basically came out of the theatre in an almost comatose state after that. You know how when you go in the theatre to see certain films, you come out feeling like your definition of the world has been slightly redefined? I kinda felt that way after watching Blood. Course, it didn't help that it was night time, in the hours when demons and vampires operated best, but still.... Kooky. Decided not to go to Open Late because no one appeared to offer a lift, and it wasn't until AFTER I rang mother up to ask her to pick me up that I realised that I could have asked someone for it. D'oh. My brain patterns must have been slowed down to match with the English voice actors diction in the film, who spoke a little bit slower than normal people spoke. In any case, it was an early night for me, which was disappointing. Waited at the carpark with Gemma and Anne-Elise (who were also waiting for their respective lifts), where we had a dazzling and frightfully exciting conversation about all we had seen and done that day! So in otherwords, we were totally silent. Actually, I was not only silent, I was also trying to be completely still. I think I was trying for a "lying in wait and then STRIKING! like a cobra!" pose, just case any demons tried to sneak up on me and tried to eat my liver. If they thought they could do that, they had another think coming to them. Yeah. Cause I know I could have done 0 to 20 kilometres an hour in 0.2 seconds in that pose. @_@ So now for today.... Nothing much today. Had Fried kway teow bought my mother (coincidence? I think NOT!) who had apparently gotten at somehwere along Dominion Road, close to Joshs flat. Hmmmm.... Next time we have an anime night there, we'll need to find it.... But then we wouldn't be able to go to Nando's *gasp shock horror* oh what am I to doooooooo? @_@ Other things, hmmmm.... Got Black and White working, and it is even more beautiful than I had imagined. I just wish my video card was up to spec, cause while it looks good, it's also a mite bit.... shaky looking. But the important thing is that it's running. Actually, the most important thing is that I got Sam and Max running, and with SPEECH! YATTA! Now I can play through the entire game with these two insane (and loveable) characters talking back to me! HOOZAH! Actually, that may not be anything to be too proud of. O.o BTW, if I sound half asleep while writing this, it's because I am. I'm STILL feeling kinda mellowish and insulated in cotton wool. This turn of affairs annoys me so. Oh well. |
